We’re here to help you understand your obligation as a retailer or distributor.
As a retailer or distributor of batteries and/or EEE, it’s likely you have an obligation to offer a take-back service to your customers.
At Wastecare, we offer a straightforward, low-cost solution to enable you to offer collection services for WEEE and batteries, to meet your distributor or retailer obligation requirements.
Battery Obligations
If you sell more than 32kg of portable batteries annually, you are required to provide a free take-back service to your customers – even if they were not purchased from you.
As one of the largest collectors and recyclers of portable batteries, Wastecare provides a free national collection service for household portable batteries and can provide battery containers ranging from 5 L to 60 L, enabling you to offer free in store collections.
If you don’t sell batteries directly, but manufacture or import, you may have an obligation as a battery producer. For more information see Importers & Manufacturers.
WEEE Obligations
Retailers and distributors of EEE are obligated to offer a free, in store take-back service, which allows their customers to dispose of their old products (WEEE) when purchasing a new item on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis.
Due to the extensive WEEE collection and recycling capabilities of the Wastecare Group, we’re able to manage your takeback scheme, offering you a cost-effective and convenient way to comply with the retailer and distributor obligations.
If you sell electronics or electronic equipment, we can provide a low-cost national collection service for the WEEE you collect or generate.
We’ll also publicise and promote your premises as part of our national network of local collection points, allowing members of the public to find locations close to them to recycle their WEEE.
